Tanzanians are no strangers to the ceramic arts! Their pottery tradition dates to the earliest history of humans. Ceramic pottery was and still is crafted for personal and tribal usage. Since pre-colonial times Tanzania’s pottery makers have often traded their pottery for basic necessities like food and livestock with neighboring communities. Most recently, after garnering international attention and respect for their talent, Tanzanian terra cotta works are now appreciated and enjoyed by world wide.
