Batiks are produced in Kenya by brushing hot liquid wax onto a piece of cotton cloth in the desired pattern. The canvas is then dipped into a dye which adheres to all of the areas that are not covered by the wax. The wax is then removed and reapplied repeated for each color used. This is a tedious time consuming endeavor that yields exceptional art. Animals, village scenes, landscapes, seascapes and abstracts compose much of the subject matter. The colors are natural and brilliant! The underlying batik background has been enhanced by a hand painted scene. The giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis) is the tallest of all land-living animal species. The giraffe stands 1620 ft tall with an average weight of 2,600 pounds! for males and 1,800 pounds for females. Giraffes usually inhabit savannas, grasslands or open woodlands and are common sights for the Maasai! This attractive long batik is colored in dark green and greenish white. This selection can be hung as is or framed.
