The lion is an artisans favorite as evidenced by its many portrayals in African art. Designated as a "royal" animal in the country of Cameroon at one time only kings and dignitaries were allowed to use any symbol that referred to the lion. The king was thought to possess many of the lions attributes as both were fiercely powerful, feared and yet revered. Today certain items are still held to traditional standards but restrictions have been loosened enough to allow fellow Cameroonians to enjoy this fabulous creature in art form! The handcrafted stool featured here has been carved from a hard wood by a Bamileke artist. It is in good shape and completely functional.
