Ghana Crafts: Ghana is one of the most well known countries on the African continent. Ghana has a rich history and has become the epicenter of Western African for art. Their traditional crafts include the works of the most famous Ashanti people. The styling of Ghanian works is tremendously varied and ever changing due to worldwide demand and the seemingly endless creative energy of its craftsmen. The pieces offered are hand carved from hard wood and shinned to a high glossy finish. The pieces are solid, very, very well crafted and a fantastic value. Selections offer precise hand detailing including tedious bead work and metal embossments. Each piece is artful and will add a tasteful, unobtrusive touch of Africa to any decor.
The Fanti occupy a flat plains region in Ghana which lies along the coast of the Gulf Guinea. They are a Twi speaking people and neighbor with the Ashanti, Bono and Ewe. The Fanti are recognized craftsmen gaining prominence for their signature rectangular shaped head akua ba dolls. The large wooden mask on display features brass and tin metal sheeting with tribal decorative etchings and copper braiding. A pronounce blackened hairdo tops the mask off. This mask has a solid heavy construction.
