The Chokwe people are members of a large culture cluster living today in central Angola, parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo and in Zambia. Artistically speaking their masks have received world wide acclaim for their naturalistic features which are often stamped with the famous "Chokwe Cross" as featured on the forehead of this mask.

During celebrations of unity masks such as the one offered here of fellow tribesmen, elders and ancestors are proudly displayed.
