" Handwoven cloth is sometimes regarded as having a spiritual potential not found in manufactured fabric."
The handmaking skills required to create such high quality fabric has been passed down from one generation to the next for at least 700 years. Indigo production being one of the oldest industries in existence is found all across Africa with each people developing their own distinctive process and design. The traditional practice of gathering leaves, flowers and stems from the indigofera or lonchocarpus cyanescens plants are still used and ground together to make a pulp. The pulp is left in the sun for 2-3 days to dry. This serves as the base.
Offered here is a beautiful handmade vintage indigo cloth from the country of Burkina Faso featuring a popular tribal pattern all highlighted by fringe at one end.
This selection may include tiny tiny separations in the seams and hand made repair work these are all normal characteristics of aged handmade textiles. This selection is in very good shape!
