" Handwoven cloth is sometimes regarded as having a spiritual potential not found in manufactured fabric."
The hand making skills required to create such high quality fabric has been passed down from one generation to the next for at least 700 years.
The Baule use a technique called "Ikat." It is a deeply complex process in which the threads are lined up on a loom by a weaver to form a pattern before being woven.
The full size cotton selection offered here is a beautiful and I mean a beautiful piece of genuine Baule tribe hand woven cloth! An off black cloth is the primary backing. Vertical strippage in red, green, blue, off white, yellow and pink is featured throughout. Brilliantly colorful rectangular sections composed of small embroidered dots are selectively interspersed some offering detailed patterns. This cloth is ver,y very well done, an absolute testimony as to the expert hand craftsmanship of weavers in the African country of Burkina Faso.
Older selections in general may include tiny rips in the seams, hand made repair work and staining. These are all normal characteristics of aged textiles This cloth is in excellent condition!
