Ashanti or Akan symbols reflect traditional mores, specific communal values, philosophical concepts, codes of conduct and social standards. They symbolize parables, proverbs, popular sayings, historical events, animal and human characteristics. These symbols are found on textiles, jewelry and perhaps most famously crafted within Ashanti seating. The stool above contains two connected diamond shapes. The diamonds literally translate into a symbol for handcuffs called Epa, which are interpreted as signs of law and justice.
